Representation and Diversity

I believe that my work hasn't fully touched on any areas for inclusion of diverse perspectives, cultures or identities, however, my current work for my Production module will be doing so. With this project, I aim to tackle issues of systematic prejudice, raising awareness of political positioning that has enabled those in power to commit crimes against less represented cultures/ethnic groups. This is relevant to today's geopolitical climate with examples being the 2026 Iran war, seeing political leaders such as Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu deciding to attack Iran for its oil reservoirs, backed by accusations of antisemitism. This relates directly to the concept behind my Production project, as this tells the narrative of an Anglo Saxon king who decided to eradicate an entire ethnic group from England based on their cultural differences.

I am ensuring inclusivity throughout this project, ensuring that I am not telling a one sided story about the Anglo Saxons or the Danes. I am aiming to tell the story for what it was, with both cultural groups being present throughout the story.

Ethics

As my Production project is intended to be a historical video intended for educational purposes, I have taken measures to ensure that stereotypes will be avoided and harmful portrayals are not written into the narrative.

Sustainability

I am becoming increasingly mindful of being sustainable with my work. Keeping up with someone I know who is currently working at The Third Floor, he tells me that Maya licenses are provided to machines at the company's render farm that they operate via a cloud service. This means that individual carbon footprints and electrical usage is kept to a minimum for people working remotely, however, this is problematic for companies as there will be a quota they have to meet throughout production on how much their practices impact the environment.

As a final year student, there isn't much I can do to incorporate sustainable practices into my work other than minimising screen time to cut costs on electricity (which is something I already do).

Reflection questions

Does your work reflect these values?

I believe my work somewhat reflects these values, however, there could be more room for ensuring my work is more ethically proportionate, meaning I should assess the cultural relevance to today and assess whether I am successfully touching on these relevant social issues in my work.

What is important to you?

To me, a story that has impact matters. It's important for me to get myself involved in a project that aligns with my own morals and ethics as this often acts as incentive to tell a meaningful narrative.
