Employment

Current Job Opportunities

Using this resource, I am able to have a look each day at what the job market looks like for a 3D previs artist and familiarise myself with what each job listing entails, preparing myself for when I'm ready to start seeking employment/internships.

Currently there is one remote-work previs job in the US, however it's mid-senior level. I will continue to use this tool to keep an eye on new job postings that arrive.

The Degree Show

I aim to attend the degree show prepared with a range of approaches for meeting potential recruiters and to show off my work. I am aiming to collate my work in one set visual aesthetic, primarily using black and red as my choice of brand colours for their powerful implications.

Education

Postgraduate Study

London is now a global leader in LED Volume filming, a technique where actors perform in front of a set of large curved LED screens displaying live-rendered 3D environments in game engines. This replaces the need for green screens as the methodology with using green screens is more time consuming now and less efficient at what it does compared with LED Volume filming.

A postgraduate level of study would benefit me if I wanted to take my skills and specialise them further, however, due to financial limitations I am more comfortable applying for internships that put me in a similar court to those that work with LED Volume filming. I would also be expected to work with AI assisted layout tools if I decided to take a postgraduate year, which does not align with my morals as a 3D artist.

My approach is what's called a 'Middle Path' where I am observant of the benefits a postgraduate degree would offer me in the 2026 job market, however I am prepared to spend the first year at a studio hardening myself to potentially enter that realm of work should I decide that's what I want to do.

Personal Progression

I will be adopting a new strategy as part of my 90 day action plan, which entails me forcing myself to learn a new skill every week. This will allow me to turn this strategy on adopting new software skills, should that be something I decide to do in a set week. I will be setting myself schedules to ensure that I stick to this strategy which will ensure that my skills stay sharp and relevant. As part of my upskilling process, I will be researching each week new tools and skills to acquire within software while also achieving the same upskilling result with networking with other people at industry events/festivals.

Resources: I will be sticking to free, open-source software as my go-to programs as I intend to minimise costs spent on new licenses. For this reason, as I have highlighted in my self evaluation, I will be continuing to build my skills further in Blender and eventually I would like to learn to use Unreal Engine.
